So, this week saw Springboard Project working on the blended – new schooling offer, and what a positive start it has been with pupils accessing virtual learning.

PSHE saw pupils beginning to learn about leading a healthy lifestyle as part of their PSD qualification. As a starting point, we assigned pupils a number of Kahoot! quizzes linked to the topic; healthy living, healthy lifestyle and healthy foods. Pupils were able to compete against other class and group members, podium gold places were awarded to Callum, Adam and James, well done!

Miss Caines reports that in the Nurture Group the students have successfully completed their first week of virtual learning and the engagement has been great, despite the ‘early’ start time! Subjects covered this week include Maths, English, PSHE and ASDAN where they have discussed and made a start on percentages, savings accounts, emotional well-being and alliteration. Well done!

In English this week, Mrs Brown set the pupils the task of becoming a reporter, using the information sourced and reporting on a crime as if it had only just taken place. The pupils worked hard researching the objective, ready for them writing the report next week. This will be marked and and used as part of their writing assessment for English functional skills.

With Mr Garbutt in ICT this week, students have been creating animated posters on a topic of their choice to introduce an app called ‘Adobe spark’. Topics of interest from students included Roblox, Manchester United, Boris Johnson and Coronavirus. Here is a screen shot of Michael’s work, showing his interest in computers, in particular Xbox.

During Maths this week, Mr Ward has had pupils working on different methods for finding a percentage of an amount. They discussed methods and practised them in the virtual lesson, with tasks then set to be completed independently.

From all staff at Springboard, we just want to say a massive well done to the pupils for this week, some of these pupils much prefer routine and struggle with change, however, this week has seen some of them who aren’t the biggest fans of technology or home learning, embrace the new offer and access virtual learning.

Have a great weekend everyone.
