Welcome to this week’s blog, I’m Mrs Fraser, the new English Teacher here at the Springboard Project. My journey commenced with the team in September and the first half term has been a huge success.

This week at Springboard both staff and students have enjoyed a myriad of engaging activities to support their diverse curriculum.
In English, we have been researching Gaming and it has been interesting to observe how this topic can influence their descriptive writing. Through the use of connectives and interesting adjectives the students have been creating their own gaming character profiles. The students have amazed me with their vast knowledge of this theme and it has been great to see them link their own experiences into their work. In addition to this, as you can see from the pictures, one of our students went the extra mile and wrote a formal email of complaint to a gaming company in both English and Japanese. After carrying out his own independent research, Oliver found that the company had originally established in Japan and translated it to suit the situation. Well done Oliver!

Over in Maths with Mr. Ward, students have continued developing their knowledge of fractions and how they would use them in real life situations. To embed this further, students have used Battleship tournaments for simplifying.

In PSCHE this week students have begun their Sex Education curriculum by firstly developing their knowledge and understanding of the Reproduction System. Mrs Brown researched and explored the female and male organs with the students to enlighten their current knowledge and perceptions. As a result of this, Mrs Brown has been overwhelmed by the mature attitude all of the students have taken when approaching this subject and exploring the different parts of the body. Next week, students will be looking at the menstrual cycle.

This week in ICT, Mr Wilkes and the students have been focusing their learning on using Serif PhotoPlus which allows students to edit and retouch photos. This software allows the students to strengthen their editing and creative skills. In addition to this, students have continued developing their e-portfolios to show progress with their learning.

I am also extremely proud to announce that our Springboard Basketball team achieved a tremendous victory mid-week when they entered the Basketball Tournament with the other schools in the Trust. As you can see from the pictures, the students came together to display their team work skills and it really paid off as they were crowned WINNERS of the tournament. A huge congratulations to Springboard and to all of our teams competing in the Basketball tournament.

Also, special recognition goes out to the Sport Leaders of the tournament who spent their time refereeing the games with confidence. Extra special thanks go to Mr Daly (Manager) and Mr Wilkes (Assistant coach and photographer) for showing their support at the tournament.

Miss Taylor has been working with some of our students over at Hortus. The Hortus Project provides opportunities for some of our students to practise their horticultural and construction skills. This week students have been learning about health and safety when using equipment and were eager to access the ride-on mowers and strimmers. As is evident in the pictures, the students were ready to fully access all of the equipment and extend the skills they require to use them effectively.

To end the week, our students spent their Duke of Edinburgh’s practical exploring the sites of Blackpool.

Lastly, may I take this opportunity to thank the wonderful staff of Springboard Project for their continued support throughout my first half term. Interestingly, Ken Robinson once stated that ‘Human talent is tremendously diverse’ and over this term it has been evident that all of my new students have an array of talents, all of which I am already extremely proud of.

Thank you Springboard, it has been a pleasure working alongside the fabulous team,

Mrs Fraser
