Hi, Mr Ward here, it’s finally come round to being my turn to write the blog.
This has been our first half term with the ‘new normal’.
The students have come back and settled in amazingly well, we have new faces this year joining our existing cohort and they have all come together to build our Springboard family.
We have gone from working through our recovery curriculum to now re establishing our main curriculum.
This the week the students have continued working well in their Maths, English, PSHE and ICT.
In PSHE the students have been learning about knife crime and the after effects. And at the start of the week we had a visit and a talk from the Police, all the students responded and engaged very well to the talk.
In English the topic of knife crime carried through and the students have been analysing different types of texts to see how topics are reported and to assess the language used.
In ICT the students have been learning about different types of composition in preparation for starting their photography project next half term.
In Maths we have been reestablishing skills looking at how we use fractions and how we can work out equivalent fractions.
We have also started looking at some new qualifications this week which the students taking part have loved completing. They can see the progress they are making through the tasks they complete.
This half term some students have had the opportunity to complete some work experience in the kitchens and make a variety of meals and learn new skills with the cook.
We have had a great end to the half term today with a rewards breakfast for the students and then a D of E trip to Walkerwood reservoir.
Here’s what Amaan has to say about his first term at Springboard..
- This school is not bad after all, Monday Wednesday and Thursday we go Mahdlo and the teachers are good. D of E was good we went into a forest and went through mud 😂 it was actually good and everyone enjoyed it 😄and we got all our clothes dirty 😂it was good and the teachers were fabulous
Today we want to wish Amaan (the boss) a happy birthday for Saturday!
And finally a word from Mrs Tootill –
Just to say happy half term to all our students, parents and carers.
It’s been very, very different. We are looking forward to the challenges next term will bring and the move towards Christmas
Stay safe
