Half Term is here…

At Springboard Project, we have developed our curriculum to include an ‘Experiencing Working Life Pathway’. The intent being to help our students develop their employability skills through work experience. We are now 7 weeks in to the new term and the students have blown us all away!

The ‘Experiencing Working Life Pathway’ is very much individualised, we work with each student to help them get into the career they are passionate about. We want the students to understand what having a job entails so they can build the necessary skills to help them manage their own working life in the future.

At Avro FC, we have been working closely with Paul & Howard from ‘We are Adventurers’ to design and make a forest school in the woodland area at the back of the football club.

The students have learned how to use various gardening equipment in a safe way, they have chopped down diseased trees, dug up and disposed of various shrubs, cleared an area for log seating to be put down and made a safe pathway through the forest for the children to use. The forest school will be used by many local primary schools to deliver outdoor education to the children for years to come.

6 weeks in and we think it looks amazing!

A massive well done to the students who are working hard and excelling on their placements. Some of the feedback the students have got from their employers is amazing, and we’ve had comments such as ‘he is the best volunteer we’ve ever had on work experience’ and ‘he’s great with the customers, everyone loves him’ and ‘if we were taking people on right now, we’d employ him’…….. How amazing!!

A big thank you to everyone at Jenkins Autos, Zena’s Café, Dog-E-Dayz Day-care, Oldham Council Environmental Services, ‘We Are Adventurers’ and Avro FC for their continued support.

We’re not all about work experience though, we want the students to succeed and get the best possible start to working life, the more skills and qualifications the students leave us with the better!

We can help with driving theory tests, food hygiene courses, cv writing, football coaching courses and interview skills. Whatever our young people are passionate about, we’re here to support them.

Congratulations to Kian T and Kaiden for completing their FA playmaker football coaching course and to Cameron for passing his Level 2 Food Hygiene and Safety course!!

In such a short time we have formed many links with businesses in and around the Oldham area who support us by providing placements for our students. With the help of these businesses, the students gain valuable transferable skills needed for working life. Without the support of these local businesses and everyone at Avro FC, our students wouldn’t have the opportunities they have now.

We’re always looking for more employers to help and support us in providing work placement opportunities.

If you can help, or know someone who can help, please ask them to get in touch.

We can’t wait to see where the next half term brings us!
