Preparing for working life…

The Spring Board Project team have been working super hard implementing our new curriculum offer, Preparing for Working Life. The intent being to help our students prepare and be ready for work life on completion of their time at Spring Board Project.

The offer is second to none, we have a clear process to target our students’ needs and to allow our students to blossom in their chosen field of work.

Students have thoroughly enjoyed working on their core subjects such as Maths, English, ICT and PSHE and we are seeing students achieve success every day.

Preparing for Working life students have had the opportunity to choose a pathway that interests them, this allows them to be prepared for college, work experience or a job.

The Sports Pathway – Creating opportunities and experiences in the sport world, accessing the local community and completing qualifications to support the progression of their chosen destination. We focus on sports coaching, video analysis, organising competitions and 5 key skills including communication, self-belief, team work, self-management and problem solving.

The Creative Pathway – Creating opportunities and experience in creative subjects such as art, photography and film production. This term the students have been accessing art class completing some stunning work.

The Catering pathway – Creating opportunities and experience in catering, on this pathway, students will learn to prepare and cook food through traditional methods such as boiling, braising, roasting, frying etc. These skills will be vital in building a career in any catering environment. The students are completing catering qualifications to support the progress and be prepared for the working life.

All Preparing for Working Life students have had access to a Health & Wellbeing offer, our aim is to enhance the well-being of each student, we feel taking part in Health, Emotional, Positive Wellbeing workshops and creating our new running club alongside multi-sports and health related fitness programmes has had a huge impact on the students so far.

Duke of Edinburgh has been a huge success at Spring Board Project and we are keen to continue to develop the students completing the award. So far, the students have experienced some amazing places utilising the opportunities to learn and develop life skills in challenging situations outside the class room.

Our new interventions team have been working hard to understand and create good relationships with our students and we plan to use this intervention strategy to support students on a 1-1 basis. This way, the student can get the most from our new curriculum offer and successfully integrate with the wider community. We have seen some amazing work from using the interventions team.

The Preparing for Work Pathway has been created to support our students and allow them to gain the vital skills along with the Experience Work Pathway, our students will be better prepared and ready for working life in the local community.

We want out students to strive for success and we believe we are seeing that success already.
